Our parish process

The parish is currently in the process of searching for a new rector. In order to accomplish this task, and in the interest of both "sharing the load" among many people and involving a wide and diverse group of parishioners, we are forming four committees, each with different and important responsibilities (material courtesy of and copyright Episcopal Diocese of CT).

More information about the Transition Process in general can be found in these charts:

TRANSITION PROCESS TIMELINE

TRANSITION TEAMS & ROLES

In general, here are some desirable characteristics for all team members, regardless of which team they desire to serve:

  • Team player
  • Prayerful
  • Good organizational skills (essential for Team Leaders)
  • Works for the good of the whole and not in a partisan manner
  • No hidden agendas
  • Can maintain confidentiality (an absolute for the Recruitment Team members)
  • Comfortable with assessment, data gathering (Discernment and Recruitment)
  • Willing to commit time required to attend meetings and to participate fully
  • For Recruitment Committee: to prevent conflict of interest, team members are not related to each other (spouses, parent/child, etc.)
  • For Discernment & Recruitment Committees: at least one and not more than two team members are members of the Vestry and serve as liaison to the Vestry (if a Vestry member completes his/her service during the Transition Process, the Vestry may appoint the person to continue to serve as a team member an liaise with the Vestry in an ex officio capacity throughout the transition)
  • For Discernment & Recruitment Committees: to prevent conflict of interest, staff, their spouses/partners and family may not participate
  • Note: Wardens are not required to serve on the teams; and, with their busy schedules, it may be wise to allow other members of the Vestry to serve in this capacity

 Team Roles

WARDENS & VESTRY

  • Select Team members
  • Develop a communications plan for the Transition Process
  • Liaise between the teams and the Canon for Mission Leadership

TEAM CHAIRS & CHAPLAINS

The Discernment and Recruitment Teams will select a Chair (to call meetings, set agendas, and run meetings) and a Chaplain (to offer and/or assign prayer leaders to open and close meetings).

The Chair demonstrates these leadership abilities and skills:

  • Accountable
  • Calls others to accountability
  • Communicates clearly
  • Able to delegate
  • Sets schedules and holds them
  • Leads meetings with a balance between agendas, tasks, and team needs
  • Listens with an open mind and heart
  • Generates optimism
  • Follows up with tasks

The Chaplain is familiar with Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, and is committed to open and close each team meeting with prayer.

The Four Committees

(more info on each tab to the left)

Discernment Committee - people who will lead us in discovering where God is leading this parish, what our particular calling is as a community of faith.
Recruitment Committee - people who will take the information that flows from the work of the discernment committee to match our understanding of what God has in mind for this parish with priests who are in a position to help the parish get there

Prayer Committee - a group commissioned with the important task of praying for the other committees and the parish as a whole every day.
Hospitaility Committee - the wonderful folks who provide food for certain meetings, from arranging for dessert and coffee for some meetings to perhaps putting together a potluck for a parish wide meeting and providing other forms of hospitailty.
